Tokyo Police Club 10/30/08 at Boston University

I fancy myself a music connoisseur, but I am unfamiliar with Ontario, Canada's Tokyo Police Club.  These indie-rocking canucks have made quite a name for themselves, the highlight of their career thus far is opening for Weezer on their current North American tour.  Now I'll admit that Weezer has fallen off in recent years, but still there's no denying the genius of Pinkerton and the Blue Alblum.

There's been a lot of hype at the radio station about this show, so in the past few days I've made it my job to brush up on my knowledge of Tokyo Police Club's discography.

TPC's debut album Elephant Shell made quite a splash.  Pitchfork Media gave the album a 6.3 (a high rating from Pitchfork's fickle staff) and described it as, "a letter of intent from a band that's squatted on the fence, tentative to commit to one particular genre."  I don't want to make any brash references, but the inability to stick to a genre can often create great results: Beck, My Morning Jacket, Neil Young).

Now, I've been listening to their stuff and I'll admit that they're not breaking any new ground in the world of indie-rock (hard to do without being pretentious ie; The Vampire Weekend), but it's a quality showing of casio keyboards and fast paced chord progressions.

If you go to BU, the show is at 8 P.M. on Thursday at BU Central.  Mobius is opening for them (they don't sound that great, maybe show up a bit late) but it's worth listening to.  The most important bit of information about this show is that IT 'S FREE!

Go to the show.  Listen to music.  Have fun and maybe meet some cute indie-chicks.
