5-Word Movie Review: Pineapple Express

5-Word Movie Review: Pineapple Express

James Franco Steals the Show

Final Thoughts: Pineapple Express is a love poem to marijuana. So, if you detest pot smoking, chances are you will either hate this film or simply not “get” it.

Judd Apatow, the comedic genius behind the 40-Year-Old Virgin and Superbad, prides himself on making comedies out of relatively unfunny subjects: unwanted pregnancy, heartbreak, immature old men, etc. And so, it’s no surprise that he chose to tackle the subject of chronic marijuana smoking and drug-trafficking in his latest effort.

While I’ve never smoked a day in my life (I swear!), I still found Pineapple Express undeniably hilarious. James Franco, who plays friendly neighborhood drug dealer Saul Silver, puts in an amazing performance from start to finish, and he will undoubtedly be the most quoted film character of the year.

All in all, Pineapple Express does not disappoint.

Come for the comedy; leave with a newfound admiration for James Franco.

I get the chronic, but I don't get why Judd's starting to go over like the Titanic - that movie SUCKED!! Posted 08/07/2008 09:57 AMReply

Maybe Franco finally found his niche? He wasn't too great of an manly drama lead or pseudo-historic hero. I think it's great that he turns out to have fabulous comic timing Posted 08/07/2008 2:04 PMReply

I've always liked James Franco but his role in this movie solidifies his talent. I loved his performance and can't wait to see what he does next. Posted 08/08/2008 7:15 PMReply
