In unfortunate news for Brits and potential study-abroaders, the UK may ban happy hours in bars and restaurants. The proposal is rooted in recent findings that show a trend in binge drinking, mostly in teens and young adults. There’s some sort of concern about liver damage or some sort.
The idea to ban “time-designated drink discounts” is just one component of a larger attempt to reduce drinking. There will also be an expensive public awareness campaign and a crackdown on enforcement of drinking laws.
However, happy hours are especially in trouble because health advocacy groups have this silly idea that binge drinking is somehow connected to cheap drinks.
Nevertheless, ban happy hours or don’t ban happy hours, young adults will still find an affordable way to find alcohol… even if it means sipping on nail polish remover. (Note: drinking nail polish remover is not recommend.)
