Everybody wants a piece of the pie… especially if that pie is made of Google’s billions and billions of dollars.
Now that Google is king of the universe and even coming out with its own iPhone rival, a man by the name of Hubert Chang is coming forward. Never heard of him? Of course not, he's the guy who walked away from Google back in the early days.
Mr. Chang claims that he met Stanford students and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1997 while a grad student at NYU. He then supposedly worked with the pair to come up with PageRank (which is essentially the foundation for how the search engine works), create the name Google and develop the business plan. Now, 11 years later, he's selling himself as the third founder of Google… the third founder who thought Google probably wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
TechCrunch has the sad, sad story of what became of Hubert Chang:
So why wasn’t his name on the original PageRank paper? Because, he says, he decided to pursue his Ph.D instead. Then when he did finish his Ph.D n 2002 and contacted Google, he got the big brush off from Larry and Sergey’s handlers. (Surprise, surprise). Remember, boys and girls, always ask for a byline.
Now Google is worth around $23 billion and employs more than 19,000 people. Sorry, Mr. Chang, I hope you’re enjoying your NYU Ph.D.
