I was all excited to camp out in the freezing cold at Best Buy for whatever absurd deals they were going to have this year, given that the economy is currently underwater. Surely, they must be having the best sales ever to compensate for the lack of demand that faces all retail stores this holiday season? Well, the one word answer to that question is: nope.
I’m speaking mainly of the “doorbuster” page, which is supposed to have such unheard of deals on it that you actually have to get tickets for the items in line. Instead, what do we see? A $400 PS3, which is its regular price, but now it comes with a game you don’t want (Ratchet and Clank) and a DVD you already have (Casino Royale).
Further down the page we have a highly suspect digital camera selling for $60, knocking $30 off the original price, and then a Panasonic 720p TV for $900. It doesn’t even say if that’s any money off the original.
And the icing on the cake has to be the prominently feature $12 Guns and Roses Chinese Democracy CD, which you’ve been able to get for free on the internet for about three months now. Best Buy, you’re putting your faith in CD sales now? It’s time to get your head out of the sand.
I’ve posted scans of the entire ad above, there are one or two good things, but overall it's just a depressing reminder of the current state of the economy. Oooh Hannah Montana’s PS2 game for $10!
