Eight Running Mates for Obama

Eight Running Mates for Obama

When I told my friend that I was writing this particular entry, he brought up how ironic it was that a blogger under the penname “anarchy” was writing about the 2008 elections.

But here it is.

A note before someone comments about how idiotic or wrong my choices are:

I definitely wouldn’t call myself a political expert, or even a political enthusiast. I do however, try to keep myself informed, though the extent to which I am is questionable.

Stay tuned for Republican running mates.

Hilary Clinton, 60

Former First Lady with Bill Clinton, New York Senator, and of course, contender for the 2008 Presidential Office

Since June 7, she has suspended her campaign and endorsed Obama. Now there are whisperings about having her be Obama’s right-hand woman, complete with a secret meeting between the two. Their platforms are pretty much identical and Hilary does hold a strong contingent of supporters among the American working class that Obama needs. However, will her image in the media as a calculating ice queen damper Obama’s?

Kathleen Sebelius, 59

Governor of Kansas

People say she’s a less robotic version of Clinton. What makes Sebelius look so good is because she’s somehow made her stay in the heart of Republican country. She’s been known to work well with both parties—she named a former Republican state party chairman as her running mate for her second term as governor and won. However, her major weakness is her lack of foreign policy experience.

George Clooney, 47

Actor

Well, why not? Brad Pitt endorsed him for president and it’s a well known fact that Clooney’s got a man-crush on Obama. Clooney’s always been politically outspoken and politics is in his blood (his father is a politician). Many entertainers go into politics because it requires roughly the same skills—public speaking, looking good, bull****ting, acting… Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger are good examples of Hollywood going political. Clooney could be next.

John Edwards, 55

Demo nominee for VP in ’04 and candidate for Demo presidential nomination in ’08.

Even though Edwards said he doesn’t want to run as VP again, I include him on this list because I think he and Obama really suit each other. Edwards is in my opinion, one of the most charismatic politicians among potential candidates for VP. Plus, he’s a Southerner who appeals to blue-collar Americans.

Jigglypuff, 11

Balloon Pokémon

Cute and lovable Jigglypuff will warm and hypnotize millions with her hauntingly comfortable lullaby. Not only that, Jigglypuff’s roundness may attract the overweight and obese Americans (roughly 60% of the population) who want a politician they can connect with.

Joe Biden, 65

Senior Senator from Delaware, candidate for Demo presidential nomination in ’08

I really like Biden’s smile. But besides that, the man’s been in the Senate since the 70’s, which makes up for Obama’s supposed lack of experience. I thought Biden was one of the best candidates in the race, and it’s really a pity that he didn’t get more exposure. Many people say that he’s better likely to be chosen as Secretary of State under Obama and that while he’s experienced, he won’t help the campaign as strategically as they would like.

Lisa Simpson, 8

Student at Springfield Elementary School

Mature and intelligent beyond her age, Lisa Simpson has achieved more in her 8 years than most do in 50. Her knowledge of world affairs and her value of integrity makes her a favorable candidate. However, her lack of experience in government and religious views (she’s a practicing Buddhist and has stated that Wicca is “very empowering”) will be her greatest weakness.

Jim Webb, 62

Former Secretary of Navy, Virginia Senator

To be honest, I don’t know very much about this guy. But his experience as a soldier during the Vietnam War draws obvious similarities to John McCain, which may help. Webb’s from the South, has opposed the war from the beginning, and has national security experience as the former Secretary of Navy. However, he’s only been in the Senate since 2007.

Who do you think should be on the ticket?
