Coming Soon to your Michigan Town: Wacky Tobbacy Vending Machines

Coming Soon to your Michigan Town: Wacky Tobbacy Vending Machines

Now that the election has faded a bit, we can turn our attention to the newest law on the books in Michigan: legalized use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.

If there was a ever a time to put this on the ballot, it was 2008, when Liberal (that’s with a capital “L”) policies and a backlash against neo-conservatism swept the nation. Barack Obama is our nation’s first Black president. The U.S. Senate has a near super-majority of Democrats, and the U.S. House is stocked full of Dems. And, in Michigan, two critical social issues were on the ballot. Let’s concentrate on the proposal dealing with pot, in which 63% of state voters joined 12 other states in support of the use of medical marijuana for medicinal purposes.

A good pro/con look at the issues about medical Marijuana paints the picture as one of research and need vs ethics and a drug culture run amok. But, these issues were easily parsed in East Lansing: a whopping 75.5% (16,472) voters in town voted in favor of legalizing pot for medicine, and 24.5% (5,427) voted against the smell of weed.

Here in Michigan, the new law goes into effect on December 4. Authorized (what does this “authorized” mean? rules are to be developed by the Michigan Department of Community Health by early March) individuals can possess up to 2.5 ounces of weed and/or 12 plants in a “locked facility.” Note, however, that federal law supercedes state law. The G-men wear a different pair of glasses, and they see cannibas as a controlled substance; thusly, possession of cannibas is a federal crime. So, if we have a medical condition (HIV, cancer, severe nausea – does a hangover count?) where pot can help ease our pain, should we be wary that the DEA is on our doorstep?

Or, maybe more interestingly, how can we fake a doctor’s prescription to get some legal pot? (errr, wouldn’t this be illegal?) Do we need to go to medical marijuana shops to get our stash? Will there be Marijuana AVM machines around somewhere, like have popped up in Southern California? (watch a Marijuana AVM in operation)…

Sparky, sparky... burn, burn.

Absurd as it may be, in a nation with thriving alcohol and tobacco industries, the infamous SoCal vending machine has a fingerprint reader. Why do you suppose that fact is NEVER revealed? For most of mankind's history, cannabis was a valuable medical herb. Google "W.B. O'shaughnessy". Our nation's "father" George Washington urged his own gardener to "sow it everywhere". Do it! It's not like random under-aged kids can just walk up to these vending machines, throw in 50 cents, and walk away with a bag.

You have to have a medical card to even get in the dispensary that owns the vending machine.

They are not located right on the street.

And first of all they are not going to be allowed in Michigan. Only California has these machines. Posted 11/10/2008 12:03 PMReply

I agree, it is much better to keep this out of vending machines and storefronts and in the hands of teenage gang bangers. If society allows entrepreneurs to set up these types of establishments, what is going to happen to all of the jobs that the black market guarantees? How is a young thug supposed to afford that new pair of Air Jordan's if they can't post up by a fast food joint and sell dime bags? Vending machines would destroy the entire dime bag market leaving thousands of teenagers out of work. Posted 11/10/2008 1:41 PMReply

As a ten year OMMA patient in Oregon I commend the people of your state for thier compassionate vote.
There are over 1000 MMJ studies a year being done by the pharmaceutical companies and other researchers who want to cash in on the benefits of Medical Cannabis.
Please do your homework and google Marijuana Research Studies. I have about 100 pages of links on this topic.
Also you should google the U.S. patents for Cannabis that have been granted in the past decade for another view of the cannabis picture.

AS for legalizing this, not my argument, I use it for medicine and that's all that counts.

Your ignorance on this topic is mind boggling.

I hope the new government will stop harassing sick and dying AMERICANS.

healing energy and lovingkindness to all...

My wife ha neurofigromentosis, and she has alot of pain, I'm sure this will help her. And besides, whats so bad about it?
