UC Pres Denies Idea of Lowering Drinking Age and Amethyst Initiative

The Amethyst Initiative is something that is encouraging lawmakers to rethink the legal drinking age of 21. University of California president, Mark Yudof, does not think the issue needs to be addressed. The initiative was set up by the former president of Middlebury College, John McCardell. His main point behind the initiative is to decrease the amount of binge drinking in America by increasing education. As college students we see a lot binge drinking on campus and observe the negative affects. Apparently Yudof does not think that lowering the drinking age to 18 and better educating the youth will stop that problem on campuses.

The New University:

Yudof Mentions, “Neither I, nor my campus colleagues, believe there is a compelling reason to change present law. Nor is there scholarly consensus that lowering the drinking age to 18 can be expected to yield health and safety benefits for young Americans.”

One hundred thirty college presidents have already signed the initiative, ranging from private liberal arts colleges to East Coast Ivy League universities, such as Johns Hopkins University and Dartmouth College, to high-ranking West Coast colleges such as Occidental College and Pomona College.

Both sides of the issue present a good point but to be honest, as someone that observes these things, I think it is a cultural stigma that plagues young Americans. Once a kid enters college they love the idea of being hammered and some never leave that state of mind. If the drinking age is lowered, it would take a long time for the number of binge drinkers to decrease due to our culture. I think a real solution would be to go European and allow alcohol in public places. It would offer accessibility and people, especially students, would approach partying in a different way. But that’s just me, what you think?

BSU Takes Politics More Seriously Than Politicians

In lieu of the upcoming election, Boise State’s student run lecture series, Vox Discipuli, hosted two nationally recognized pundits in a political debate earlier today. Is it ridiculous to anyone else that a small state school hosted a more cogent sounding debate than the recent vice presidential one?

Peter Beinart and Jonah Goldberg, editors, authors and avid bloggers (they actually both share a video post called ‘What’s Your Problem?’ on nationalreview.com) both came to the home of the big blue to hold a live political debate. After the debate, members of the audience were able to ask questions of the pundits.

While I was in attendance, I heard many great points, was forced to contemplate my own beliefs multiple times and was highly entertained. Above all else, I realized that some of our professional politicians *cough*Palin*cough* couldn’t hold any sort of intellectual conversation close to matching this.

Politicians get paid to feed us BS and get us to side with them in this popularity contest that we call an election. Essentially the science in political science is finding a figurehead and platform which will gain the most support. Now I’m not knocking our political system, just calling it what it is. If the theoreticians were the ones making policies, my opinion is that we’d have a much smoother (not streamlined, that would defeat the purpose of bipartisanship and checks and balances) run government.

But the point at hand is that the powers that be think that a smooth talker like Sarah Palin is going to convince a majority of Americans to vote for them. If I were this Joe Six-pack character I keep hearing about, I’d be rather offended.
Dartmouth Mating Pt. I: 20 Best Songs to Play During Sex

While I can't speak for the entire student body, I did spend a respectful amount of time racking through my personal music collection (respectful as well) trying to find the best beats that set the mood when Dartmouth students are rubbing uglies. So whether it's with your steady, friend with benefits, or drunk hook-up, there's a song on this list for every hump.

In no particular order...

1. "Sexual Healing" - Marvin Gaye
A classic. Can't go wrong with Marvin Gaye. This song just oozes old school lovin'.

2. "Bed" - J. Holiday
To be frank, I'm not a big fan of these Akon/Ne-yo/J. Holiday type singers. Their songs are usually trite and lack quality. "Bed" on the other hand, is enormously addictive and with lyrics that make most girls swoon.

3. "Wasted Early Sunday Morning" - Sneaker Pimps
Sounds exactly like it's titled.

4. "Mondo Bongo" - Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros
If you think this song sounds familiar, that's because it is. This is the song that Brad and Angelina bumped to in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

5. "Wildcat" - Ratatat
For those who are feeling frisky, here's one of Ratatat's more low-key songs, complete with animal sounds.

6. "Breathe [Original 2001 Version]" - Telepopmusik
This song is for those who think they're hotter than everyone else. The whole song just sounds so sensual.

7. "Me&U" - Cassie
Perfect song if you're with (or are) a drunk girl who's really horny. Watch amazing things happen.

8. "Last Request" - Paolo Nutini
Sweet and to the point. Best for couples.

9. "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" - Daft Punk
If your hook-up has a sense of humor.

10. "Nightvision" - Daft Punk
Exactly the opposite of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Very sensual.

11. "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart (ft. Joss Stone)" - Al Green
Good for make-up sex.

12. "I Love My Sex" - Benny Benassi
Best those who want to bring the club into the bedroom.

13. "Sexy Girl" - Eek-A-Mouse
For the lazy wish-this-were-on-the-beach rendezvous.

14. "Until the End of Time (ft. The Benjamin Wright Orchestra)" - Justin Timberlake
Hate him or not, can't deny guy's got good beats.

15. "Express Yourself (Mocean Worker)" - Charles Wright & The Watts 103
Old school frisk and fun.

16. "Get Low" - Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz
This song is a pretty legitimate song; it gets girls naked. Trust me.

17. "Them Belly Full" - Bob Marley
Good for sex when you're high. Actually, anything Bob Marley is good for weed womps.

18. "Wicked Game" - Chris Isaak
Isaak's got a very soothing tenor voice. It really sets the mood.

19. "Between the Sheets" - Isley Brothers
This song is was actually influenced by Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing"...and it shows. The soft vocals and synthesized beats are a perfect combination.

20. "Just Like Heaven" - The Cure
There's something oddly nostalgic about The Cure, which is weird because they're slightly before my (and I'm assuming your) time.

Honorable Mentions

"Ding Dong Song" - Gunther
"Disco Inferno" - 50 Cent
"Bump and Grind" - R Kelly
"Teardrop" - Massive Attack

What are songs that you jiggle to?

Honestly, it really doesn't matter. Does anyone pay attention to what's going around them when they're f-cking?

UO in Portland: WHite Stag Block

This past weekend was the grand opening of the newest University of Oregon campus in Portland calling home to the White Stag Block. The White Stag Block, a refurbished, 103,000 square-foot green facility, merges parts of the White Stag and Hirsch-Weiss, Skidmore Block, and Bickel Block buildings into a single complex at the west end of the Burnside Bridge.

This new campus gives students and professionals even more hands-on opportunities in subjects such as journalism, architecture, digital arts, product design, law, and other continuing education courses. The facility features state-of-the-art classrooms, labs and studios, and space for exhibits, lectures, and both private and public events for up to 200 people.

The facility now features the latest in sustainable technologies and green building design such as environmentally friendly, energy-efficient windows, a brand-new 10,000-gallon storm water retention tank designed to control the facility's runoff, and recycled flooring from the Eugene campus was brought in to make up much of the facility, to name only a few. The UO's White Stag Block even earned LEED Gold certification, which is one of the toughest recognitions granted by the U.S. Green Building Council.

I plan on doing my BFA in Product Design in this building in a few years and am very excited to study here. The UO has done an incredible job in the renovation of this building and should be very proud of all it will do for its students, faculty, and community.

Sarah Palin: More Than Just Tina Fey

I love Sarah Palin in almost the exact same way that I love George W. Bush. Neither one has a single clue what they are doing but somehow got shoved into the White House spotlight and is just doing their best to wink their way through to the end. Im willing to bet that Bush has asked, more than once this week, if he can just go home now. I honestly feel sorry for the guy. For eight years hes made a continual ass of himself and allowed the lunatics around him make horrible decisions in his name solely because he was never fit to be more than Daddy's Little Boy, much less the President of the United States of America. Though Palin hasnt had the chance to do any real damage, the reason I actually hate Bush, I currently have nothing but amicable feelings for Palin as she continuously provides SNL and the world with something quaint and adorable to fawn over, kind of like a slow kitten! Though each party likes to stick to the idea that their contender always wins the debates, there is no possible way that a human being with functioning senses could have watched the Vice Presidential Debate on Thursday night and truly felt she was the victor. She was, however, just as delightful as ever. My favorite part has got to be when she pretty much outright asked Biden to stop proving her wrong, but thats her charm, I suppose, unabashed idiocy. While Biden knew the answer to every single question he was being asked and simply pulling the facts and the right words straight from his brain, Palin had to read her responses, which werent actual responses or answers of any kind, directly from her notes. Aside from the fact that she really had no idea what she was talking about or how a debate works, she seriously overused the term "Maverick", and she also may have winked a few times. Adorable!

On a more serious note, however, I actually hate the prospect of Sarah Palin making it into the White House for feminist reasons. Though I am still sorting out my own feminist views - mostly I think women should behave like men to promote equality and the death of sexist ideals, hence my undying love for Hilary Clinton - I know for certain that Palin only works, in the sense of function and employment, for the Republican Party because she is the quintessential submissive domesticated female, willing to do what is necessary for the men around her, that she deems superior to herself, to succeed. There is not a doubt in my mind that someone, somewhere sat down with her and said "We need to appeal to a different demographic, we are going to use you as a pawn" and she said "Okey dokey!" While I respect a woman's right to live a traditional life, she shouldnt use that to manipulate a country into screwing itself over for four more years. We're not supposed to be able to relate to our President, thats the point, theyre the ones fit to run the country, not us Joe Six-Packs. As Palin proves, again and again, she hasnt a single clue what McCain stands for, she just knows she stands behind him. I give her credit for having the guts to put herself on the chopping block because she does seem like a perfectly nice and lovely woman and despite our drastically different political views, I dont think they make her some kind of evil. That doesnt mean, however, that just because shes a woman, other women should vote for her party. The most glaring reason being that she simply doesnt believe in womens rights. As I said, there is nothing wrong with tradition but it does impede on the growth of our society and a vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for an enormous societal step backwards. Any woman considering this plan of action officially relinquishes the right to ever consider herself a feminist, she can never claim disappointment when a man doesnt call her back or give her the job or respect her in any way because, simply put, Palin is not trying to better women in any sense of the concept. In fact, she wants to make it harder for us to claim our bodies and our minds as our own and sure, its great that shes pretty, but theres a reason that most political ladies arent hotties: attractive girls usually settle on something easier than politics, with less of a rejection rate, as an occupation but a brilliant mind in a less satisfying package will go the extra mile, push a little harder, and get recognition for her brains. Any and all are welcome to negate that but its the unfortunate truth in most situations. So, leave Palin in Alaska, shes doing just fine up there with her bizarre family and pregnant teen daughter (the Juno reference in there is just too hilariously coincidentaly obvious), so leave her there to hunt n' stuff! Having her in the White House is not and will never be a wise decision - for anyone.

Our Band is Banned

I’m With the Band, or At least sitting in Their Seats

This past weekend’s football game against Ohio State University required extra rowdiness from our UW fans due to the suspension of our school band. Band members who were already on probation received the news that they would not be performing this weekend due to allegations of hazing, alcohol abuse and sexual misconduct. Though the band will begin practicing again, they are suspended indefinitely and will be further investigated by the dean of students.

Though the band was certainly missed at times in the game when you knew they should have been playing, their empty seats meant more room for us. Those of us who have never come close to the field had the chance to sit 10 rows away from our favorite team. We may miss the band, but our close up pictures may seem worth it, just this once.

Though reports are saying that only a small portion of the band participated in these acts, all 300 members have suffered due to these allegations. Reports of semi-nude dancing and women forced to kiss other women are being further investigated.

The band and all its glory is a crucial part of the game day experience, especially for those who have become accustomed to singing along to their favorite songs. The Wisconsin v. OSU game certainly did not feel the same without them, partly because we lost, and partly because we could actually hear ourselves talk.

There's nothing like a scandal, especially when it hits the headlines...

Say No to Drugs-Eat Rap Snacks

Why would anyone ever get into coke when instead they could eat delicious salty treats sponsored by their favorite rapper?

I mean, it sounds like a legitimate question to me.

I had never seen/heard of these since a coworker had a bag at work the other day. Apparently she swears by them. I believe the exact term used to describe them was "amazing."

And how could they not be? Honey Dew Cheese Curls touted by Yung Joc sound nothing short of spectacular.

The first description of them when you Google "rap snacks" sounds tasty too: various rapper based chip products. Kind of makes it sounds like they're made out of the rappers themselves, but I think I know what they're getting at.

Anyway. Apparently they sell these at the Big Lots in Bloomington, so I think I might have to make a trip out there and check them out for myself. i just find it amusing that music promotion has jumped from tee shirts, keychains and stickers to food products. But hey, if it's working for them, by all means keep at it boys. I'm sure Yung Joc wants to get back to his position as Forbes 20th wealthiest rapper, and if the market is in potato chips, then congrats for finding that niche.

No Parking

If you're a commuter student with a car, you know - there are not enough parking spaces in either the Theater or Athletics lot for parking. And it is absurd.

Today I had to drive to school - something I usually avoid due to not only to the lack of available spaces, but also none of the assigned student lots are anywhere near my classes - and in order to get a space (not even a good one!) I had to leave my house half an hour before my first class. This means I was searching for a parking spot at 9:40am and at that point, the Athletics lot was already 75% full. I found a spot - and then had to hike up the hill that is Brandeis University in order to get to my class located in Rabb. I arrived a few minutes early, out of breath, with my nose running and my ears aching due to the unanticipated harshness of the 50 degree weather. This is not OK.

For starters: students pay an incredible amount of money to go to school here - give them, all of them, somewhere (dare I say reasonable) to park. When there are not enough parking places, we are forced to park in the many empty spaces reserved for staff and faculty around campus (that are, by the way, much closer to our classes/on campus jobs). Then, we get a ticket for upwards of $20, even though we have already paid between $65 and $125 for a parking pass. A friend of mine faced this dilemma today - she ended up parking in Tower lot when there were absolutely no spaces in either of the commuter lots - and got a ticket. Angry, she took her ticket to the parking office where she proceeded to get into an argument with the resident cranky parking lady. What's worse is that she was told that when both Athletics and Theater lots are full, commuters should park in J lot - which is a parking lot across the railroad tracks, not remotely on campus. YEAH RIGHT!

A significant number of spaces in the commuter lots are being occupied by construction vehicles or are reserved for admissions parking - no additional permits have been issued for commuter students (not even those who have high level on-campus jobs!!), making the parking crunch even more difficult. J-lot is honestly not a reasonable alternative - so where do I go? When I can't get dropped off by one of my housemates, I have to stand outside in the cold and wait for the shuttle that supposedly stops several blocks away from my house (It has yet to arrive on schedule), walk, go to school 30+ minutes early to try and find parking and then walk, or face a $20 ticket every time I need to park in a reasonable location on campus. Give me a break.

If you agree that Brandeis needs to do something about the lack of parking spaces for commuter students (hey, why not give some permits for the lot behind North Quad??), feel free to email Ed Callahan or contact the Office of Public Safety. Maybe you too will get to talk to the cranky parking office lady!

"McLovin" Visits UGA Tommorrow Night

Yup, the hilariously awkward Christopher Mintz-Plasse, better known as "McLovin", will be all around Athens this Tuesday. Better yet, he will be hosting a FREE viewing of his upcoming film. While he's best known for his role in Superbad, he will be promoting his new comedy Role Models (costarring Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott).

He'll start his promotional tour of Athens at the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house (on Milledge) around 6:30. The first 100 guests will receive free food.

After dinner he will attend a free advanced screening of Role Models at Beechwood Cinemas. It is expected to start at 8:00. Even cooler, he's going to stay there after the movie for a Q&A and poster signing. You can get your free ticket at the Tate Ticket office. I suggest going early Tuesday because they may sell out by the end of the day.

If you can't get tickets to see the movie, just head to Sideways bar downtown, because he ends his lone night in Athens there after the Q&A. If you haven't been to Sideways it's on Broad Street and is really cool (the outdoor area on the roof is pretty unique). Plus, things are sure to get crazy with McLovin in the building.

I also heard today that Sideways isn't having a cover like they often do, so you could potentially see Christopher 3 times without spending a dime. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday night.

So, our away game in West Virginia did not reward us with another victory this season, but it's only the Big East opener. The 24-17 defeat by the West Virginia Mountaineers was not a humiliating one, to say the least.

I will refrain from poking fun at our football team until the end of the season, but hopefully I will not have to. Our wide receiver Kenny Britt was named to the Big East weekly honor roll after 12 receptions for 151 yard during the West Virginia game, maybe he will help win the next game against Cincinnati Bearcats on 10/11.

NCAA Soccer is a Wild Ride, No One There To See It

We hear a lot about football stateside, but what about that sport the fancy people in Europe call football, soccer? This year, NCAA soccer has been quite surprising on the west coast, with UC Davis and UC Irvine showing that they’re better than the No. 17 and No. 18 rankings they received.

According to ESPN:

It's not a shocker to see two UC's in the top 20, but who could have imagined it would be No. 17 UC Davis and No. 18 UC Irvine?

Sure, the Anteaters will probably slip after losing to UCSB, but they remain the No. 18 team until at least Tuesday. The loss certainly doesn't spell the end for Irvine, which will have its chance for redemption (teams play each other twice in the Big West) on Nov. 1. Of course, the Anteaters will have to pull off the win at Harder Stadium -- something many teams have tried and few have accomplished. The No. 22 Gauchos are 54-7-5 at home since 2002.

As for UCLA, which started the year with a No. 14 preseason ranking and dropped steadily before falling out of the polls in mid-September, things aren't so good. The Bruins are a struggling 2-3-5. Consistency from season to season has been an issue in Westwood, and the roller coaster continues.

But the Bruins aren't the only California team facing its share of problems after being tabbed as an early contender. Santa Clara, another preseason favorite -- the No. 5 pick -- has completely fallen off the map, going 2-5-2.

So looks like it’s gonna be a crap shoot this year with college soccer. Now, the question is, when are Americans gonna start caring?

ND Students Stage Gitmo Protest: Lose Liberal Street Cred

Last Friday, about eight ND students in orange jumpsuits, black hoods over their heads, and bounded hands surrounded themselves in chicken wire to protest U.S. actions at the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

One of the demonstrators said the experience of being "imprisoned" for four hours was pretty intense. Yeah, I bet she was just terrified when she put up the 3 foot high chicken-wire fence herself, and voluntarily stood inside it.

According to the Observer, the President of Human Rights – ND said, "The basic goal was to make it as shocking as possible." I respect the efforts of these students to try to increase public discussion of the detention and torture of prisoners at Guantanamo, but other than forcing a poor sense of fashion on the captives, the demonstration did little to shockingly convey the brutality of indefinite torture and captivity at Guantanamo Bay.

Liberal protests have absolutely no street cred at Notre Dame, and I’m sure protestors of the ‘60s would have laughed at the pathetic attempt. What kind of protest that doesn’t end in rubber bullets and smoke grenades has ever made a difference? How is a silent protest supposed to even get people talking about the issue? I applaud the intention, but criticize the enthusiasm. Go big or go home.

I know I’ll get some hate for criticizing these Libbies, but they should thank me; as they packed up and left, I had to stop a bunch of Alumni from calling the police on a group of escaped convicts with a predilection for stealing chicken wire.
Alcohol Violations on the Rise at Princeton, Public Safety Cracking Down on Fun

Last week, Princeton Public Safety released their 2008 Annual Security Report, and as it turns out, Princetonians aren’t innocent nerd-saints, after all. They’re alcohol-guzzling deviants – well, just a small handful of them.

According to the report, the number of alcohol-related violations on campus increased from 20 in 2006 to a whopping 120 in 2007, a magnitude of six.

At first glance, the spike may suggest that debauchery is on the rise at the school, but it’s actually not. The surge in reported on-campus violations is a direct result of the administration’s increased efforts to actively police alcohol consumption.

In other words, Princeton students aren’t drinking more; they’re simply getting caught more.

The Daily Princetonian reports:

In a footnote to the Annual Security Report, [Director of Public Safety Steven] Healy explained that the increase in incidents reported in the 2007 calendar year for liquor-law violations is largely a result of the University’s implementation of a number of initiatives to address high-risk drinking, including Residential Hall Patrol (RHP) by Public Safety and closer monitoring of residential facilities.

Herbold, a member of the Alcohol Coalition Committee, said the rise in the number of incidents might be due to the presence of RHPs, but not to the new guidelines announced last fall requiring RCAs to break up parties and report intoxicated students.

Sorry, Princetonians. You’re no longer safe drinking in the comforts of your dormitory.

<strike>Big Brother</strike> Public Safety is watching you at all times – even when you masturbate.
UGA Former Wide Receiver Ike Whitaker In Trouble Again

Ike Whitaker can’t get a break. Just last Wednesday, the Virginia Tech wide receiver was suspended indefinitely from the team for missing a wide receivers meeting.

Now he’s facing more troubles. Whitaker was arrested Friday for public swearing and intoxication charges. The crimes are not new to the troubled athlete, who was arrested on exactly the same charges in 2006, though the case was dismissed.

With these string of problems, it’s no surprise Whitaker isn’t so happy. The Collegiate Times spoke with the footballer after the suspension:

The red-shirt junior from Germantown, Md, told the Collegiate Times in an interview last Thursday would be considering his options after his most recent suspension. Whitaker expressed frustration after Beamer's decision.

"I shouldn't have missed the meeting but I shouldn't have been suspended from the team because there's a number of people that miss meetings all the time," Whitaker said. "I have some decisions I have to make about what I want to do about schools, if I want to stay or here or if I want to transfer."

Add the new intoxication and public swearing charges to the suspension and things aren’t looking good for the athlete. Don’t be surprised if the Whitaker ends up saying a big fuck you to Virginia Tech and hitting the road.
Tufts Dining Hall Worker Has Heart Attack, Passes Away

When I heard about this last night, I was reluctant to report on it until I knew certain details.

According to the Tufts Daily a worker at Dewick-MacPhie collapsed last night during his shift from a heart attack, and was not able to recover. Last night EMTs and other medical personnel rushed into Dewick to save the man's life. Details are being sorted out, and if we find out anything certain, we will let you know. OTR shares deepest sympathies with the friends, family, and loved ones of one who served the Tufts Community.

More to come. Share your thoughts below.

Talk On Responsible Journalism Tonight

Siobhain Butterworth of London's The Guardian speaks tonight at Cowles Auditorium on the West Bank, regarding ethical reporting and self-regulation of journalists in a digital age. The event, titled “Raise Your Hand if You’re a Journalist: Does Responsible Reporting Need a Legal Defense?” begins at 7 PM, followed by a Q&A portion and "light refreshments" (probably implying you'll need to bring your own flask).

In an age of free-for-all internet journalism and pseudo-reporting done by marginally-qualified writers on college-themed hub sites, this topic raises some interesting questions about the state of journalism in the digital world. Butterworth will touch on topics such as gonzo journalism and the advent of style vs. substance. The event is marked under the letter Y for Yellow (as in "Yellow Journalism", look it up) on the U's Art to Z info page, which makes clever use of the alphabet by using letters to represent stuff that is happening. This event is free and open to the public.

OTR Exclusive: Lauren and Heidi Reunite for The Hills Finale?

I have a confession to make: I used to be a huge Hills fan, a Hillspert if you will. But recently, I've realized that Charlize Theron is right. The show is about NOTHINGGGGG! But maybe that's why I'm so mesmerized. Why waste my time watching something, when I can waste my time watching nothing?

But ratings have been going down hill for The Hills ever since the explosive and brilliant Lauren/Heidi/"You know what you did!" confrontation. Our source (an NU student interning at MTV development) now confirms that producers are desperate for more drama to make the show the sensation it once was way before everyone realized it was about NOTHINGGGGG and they had to rely on carefully-applied black mascara tears.

The drama du jour? Lauren is a "slut" and a "liar" and hooked up with Audrina's part-time lover (full-time sketchball) JustinBobby. Lauren's response? "Ew."

Even more controversial (not really), producers are slowly but surely crafting a Lauren and Heidi reunion and the end of Speidi for the season 4 finale. Because, even in real life, things always come full circle.

Off-Campus Housing Can Be a B*tch

There are probably a lot of you out there who are starting to look around for housing opportunities outside of the dorms or frats/sororities. There are a lot of different directions you can go, so I wanted to open up the comment boards a bit for people to talk about the places they rent from and their landlord situations. From my experience, it seems that the fewer properties a landlord has the better quality of service you are going to get. This contradicted my earlier assumption that a company who owns more properties has more staff and is more professional, but that’s usually not the case. Also make sure to make copies and document everything, you don’t want the Zaki Alawis (Michigan Rental, check facebook ‘fan club’) of Ann Arbor taking pre-existing damages off of your security deposit.

In the end we’re just college kids and big dollar signs to these people. We move in and move out, they keep the property (unless we burn it down). Make sure you address any and all problems and get it sorted out before you sign a lease (you might want to actually read it too… or have daddy do it, it’s all good). With that being said, I wish you all good luck in finding a place and an “I told you so” when Prime or Wilson White takes a week to fix your heating.
So Much to Say About UNC vs. UConn

Wow. Let's just start with that.

This past Saturday, the UNC Tar Heels obliterated then-No. 24 UConn 38-12. Yes, Tar Heel Football defeated a ranked team. By a lot. Wow.

Carolina's pride in its improving football team is clear. The game on Saturday was packed. As written in The Daily Tar Heel, only 500 tickets were left unsold. And unlike at previous games this season, Kenan stadium was a sea of Carolina Blue.

Even the basketball team (or at least select members of the basketball team) showed some school spirit and finally showed up to a game in Carolina gear. More impressive than that, however, was that when the basketball team walked into Kenan, late as usual, the crowd did not stop to cheer for them as they passed by the stands--the crowd was too busy cheering for the football team as they took the field. After their victory last week against Miami, the football team deserved the attention.

And talk about an exciting game. Personally, after last season, I never thought I would live to see the day that the Heels crushed an opponent--let alone a ranked opponent--by such a large margin. The cheerleaders better start working on those push-ups if they plan to keep up with the score of the game.

Of course, what would a game at Kenan stadium be without a random delay? This time it wasn't lightening taking out the scoreboard or severe weather delaying the game, but the two sets of lights on the north side of the stadium turning out in the middle of the game. So what better to do than start a more than enthusiastic wave going around the stadium?

Now, for the first time since 2001, the Tar Heels are ranked. A win next week against Notre Dame may not warrant the Heels moving up any farther than No. 22 in the AP poll, but at least Tar Heel Football can finally say it has a number next to their name.

Seth MacFarlane and Jay Leno!? What a Weekend!

What a weekend it was here at Miami University! Actually, to be more specific, what a Saturday it was. Two major events went down and you'd have to be a sucker to miss these gems!

At 6:00pm Saturday afternoon at Uptown Park, the creator of Family Guy Seth MacFarlane came to speak to a crowd of flaming liberals, courtesy of the College Democrats. Shortly after Seth MacFarlane's little event would finish, Jay Leno would be getting on stage for his Family Weekend Set.

So what do I have to report to you about the Mr. MacFarlane and Leno's visit? Absolutely nothing. Why? Because I went to Yager Stadium to cheer on our already floundering Pop-Warner football team against Temple. Yes, Temple, the team a few years back that was always on ESPN.com's bottom 5.

After watching Temple score what would end up being their game winning touchdowns, I decided enough was enough and that I'd go grab some grub. Of course I had forgotten about MacFarlane's visit and I got their just in time to see a College Democrat leading the modest mob in a "Yes We Can!" chant, while MacFarlane stood on the side lines cheering along. So i really can't tell you all how it went. If you're a Miami student, though, feel free to comment since I was too busy watching a team that might not even give the Little Giants a game.

And how was Leno, you ask? Well I didn't go, but my reasoning is a bit better. First of all, as Homer Simpson put it so eloquently at the beginning of The Simpsons Movie, you'd have to be an idiot to pay - especially the $40 it cost! - to see something you can watch for free on TV. So what were the reviews I heard? I heard that Leno is apparently better on TV (assuming you even like him in the first place) and he only had a few good jokes. Sounds like the parents that actually came down for Family Weekend got snubbed.

Luckily for me I chose to watch the Ohio State game with my friends instead of paying a ridiculous FORTY BUCKS to see Leno. At least I could cheer for an Ohio team that can win a damn ball game.

So feel free to berate me all you want for my in ability to pick the rights events to attend, but remember tonight to go to the Election 2008 lecture with Larry Wilmore. Tomorrow I'll write you all an amazing review of the event followed by my opinion on Tuesday night's debate to be featured on Wednesday.
