UCLA's annual tradition of Blue and Gold Week will no longer precede the USC/UCLA game as it has done in years past. The week-long celebration, complete with a bonfire, parade, and rally will occur during this coming week, third week, rather than the week before the SC game which is Dec. 6.
And students are scratching thier heads.
The events were moved to constitute a new kind of homecoming week, as the week before the USC game is the tenth week, otherwise known as "Dead Week" because of its timing before finals.
The administration does not allow student events to be held on campus in order to make the environment more conducive to studying. The large participation and the elevated noise levels of the event would make peace nearly impossible, so students have to settle for a much earlier parade, bonfire and rally, held before the less exciting Stanford game.
Hopefully, students will still come out and support the events.
This is the second bit of news pertaining to the alteration of big UCLA events. Students are already outraged that the administration is effectively cancelling Undie Run at the end of this of this quarter.
