Presidential Candidates Come To Ole Miss, Mississippi Excited To Clean Up Image

On September 26, The University of Mississippi will host the first presidential debate of 2008. McCain, Obama and about 3,000 of their closest journalist friends will descend upon the campus and the first punches of the debate battles will be thrown.

The ClarionLedger.com explains the excitement:

Now that the most exciting thing at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium is once again the Denver Broncos, all eyes are on the Mississippi town of Oxford.

The formalities are over. Running mates have been chosen. The internecine rituals of the vanquished praising the victors have been observed and the process has played out the string. Now, it's time to get it on - Mississippi style.

Mmm, Mississippi style. Sounds kinky.

But back to the issue at hand. Although the debate is a chance for the presidential hopefuls to make a good impression, it’s also a prime opportunity for Mississippi itself to show the country how sophisticated it can really be.

And, let’s be honest, Mississippi could certainly use the positive PR. For many Americans, when they think of the state they still think race riots and rebel flags… and they wouldn’t be entirely wrong. But now, the public will think of good, clean American values. Oh wait, we’re talking about politics.
