Since I am taking a feminist theory film studies class I have to ask the question are women being subjected to a masculine idea of what it means to be feminine? If it wasn’t for the media and the images that they put out there of what a desirable women should look like the world would be a different place. Since men are the ones that control the media and what is distributed to main stream America it takes a toll on the type of image that are being shown to women.
Men do not want to see average looking women with average bodies, but in fact they want a breed of supper women with tiny waist, big breast, and long legs. These are the images that are constantly shown plastered on tv shows and the fronts of magazine covers. Very rarely does the media ever showcase an intelligent women with average features, because no man can obviously get a hard on to Diane Sawyer.
I am not trying at all to shove this feminist conception of men being the down fall of our culture, but in fact I am just sharing my wisdom from someone who has spent her whole life constantly working out and grooming myself to fit into this size 2 world of beauty, because when it comes down to it this idea of beauty is a far cry from what the rest of America looks like.
