Wisconsin National Guardsmen Called for Iraq Deployment

A long road ahead...

A day after President Bush said that 8,000 troops would be coming home in February, more than 3,500 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers have been called for deployment to Iraq. The troops have been “on alert” since 2007 and are schedule to leave Febrauary 2009. Wait, February 2009? Isn’t that when those 8,000 troops are going home? Something doesn’t add up.

This marks the largest deployment of Wisconsin troops since WWII, and the boys will be gone for a year before they return home in 2010. After the 3,500 Guardsmen leave, there is still 60% of the Guard in place to help with national disasters should any arise. Do we even have natural disasters in Wisconsin?

All the best to the troops. Be safe over there.
